Today we begin our conversation about the Executive Branch. That is Article 2 of the Constitution. We are going to look specifically at the enumerated and implied powers of the President. Create a "Unit 5" folder inside of your folder that is shared with me. Create a document called "3/24 Class Notes" inside of the Unit 5 folder. On this document I want you to list those enumerated (listed) powers that you can find. We will discuss these powers as well as implied powers. Next we have a writing assignment. AECR, remove one of the President's enumerated powers and describe what the country would be like if he didn't have it.

Today we are going to talk and write about our 2nd Amendment rights. I have two short PSAs for us to watch and then a documents that gives the Pros and Cons of guns in America. From that document I'm going to ask you to write me a 4 paragraph AECR (2 body) paper. The prompt is: Using evidence from the attached article, describe your position on owning guns in America today and why you think that is best for the country going forward. For the last part of class we will begin our review for the test next week. We will review what we have, what we should have and what we need for next week's test.
Today we are going to be talking about how a Bill becomes a Law. We are going to watch a short video we've all seen before in Middle School and then work with a partner to see if we can remember the process. Once that is complete we will work on some examples of how a Bill becomes a Law. First, below is the link for the Schoolhouse Rock video for how a Bill becomes a Law. With your partner, practice with each other, how it works. Be prepared to show the class. We are now going to work with our partner to come up with some examples of how different bills, in different houses, can be crafted in to one bill that can be sent to the President for his signature.
Lastly for today, what does the Congress do if the President decides to veto the bill? Homework: None tonight! Today we will be talking about how we can amend the Constitution. First open a copy of the Constitution and find the Article that addresses making changes to the document. Discussion of what that means. Next, create a new document labeled "Class notes 16 March" and save it in the Unit 4 folder. Follow the instructions on the attached worksheet. Put your resources found on the document you created. Next, we will be taking a look at why and how the method of becoming a Senator changed. Please go to the following link and read about why the method of becoming a Senator changed and how that happened.

Today we will be talking about how Congress changes as the population of the country changes. We will be referencing Article 1 of the Constitution and how it establishes those foundations. How the census becomes important and what states have to do as population increases and people move around.

Today we are doing a review in preparation for the Unit 3 Test tomorrow. Below is the Unit 3 Study Guide. Fill it out and put it in your shared folder. We will review it in class. Once that is complete, create a folder in a folder, titled Unit 3. Move all of the documents in the shared folder inside of the Unit 3 folder EXCEPT FOR THE STUDY GUIDE.
Tonight's Homework is to review all of the material in the Unit 3 folder for the test tomorrow.
